Lagos June 17, 2009.  Etisalat Nigeria’s Director of Sales, Mr. Tolu Ojo has been appointed 2nd Vice President of the board of the Nigeria Hockey Federation. The Nigeria Hockey Federation is the body saddled with the responsibility to administer and govern hockey in Nigeria on behalf of the government.

In a congratulatory letter to the management of Etisalat Nigeria the Hon. Minister of Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission, described Ojo as a worthy ambassador of Etisalat Nigeria who has contributed immensely to the development of the sport of hockey in Nigeria. Tolu Ojo was one of Nigeria’s foremost hockey players in the late 80s and till the early 90s. He represented the nation at the national level severally during his playing career for the Nigerian Hockey Team. The appointment to the board which is for a period of four years will see Ojo contributing further to the entrenchment of hockey as a key competitive sport in the country.

Commenting on the appointment, Etisalat Chief Executive Officer, Steven Evans said the appointment is an indication of the versatility of Etisalat staff who are able to combine building Nigeria’s best network with contributing their quota to the development of other areas of the Nigerian nation. According to him, “The appointment is an indication that the Nigerian Hockey Federation recognizes the high quality of our workforce and I am confident that Tolu will, in keeping with the etisalat tradition, be a worthy innovative ambassador of Etisalat Nigeria on the board of the Nigeria Hockey Federation”.

The telco had earlier sponsored the Etisalat Football League in the UAE, the UAE-Brazil football match and other tournaments both in the UAE and internationally. Etisalat Nigeria is also sponsor of the English Premier league on HiTV. It will also be recalled that the Etisalat Group recently entered into a partnership deal as Official International Telecommunications Partner of FC Barcelona of Spain.
