FAQs : Prepaid Data Roaming Plans


This service enables all new and existing prepaid subscribers to make use of data services such as Internet browsing, sending and receiving of mails, Blackberry activities, audio and video streaming e.t.c with their Blackberry device or any internet enabled device when they travel to any of our prepaid data roaming destinations. This is in addition to enjoying SMS and voice services.

This is a plan that is designed for data usage whilst roaming abroad. It can be purchased before your travel or while abroad. With the successful purchase of the roaming data plan, all your data usage while abroad will be deducted from this plan until it is exhausted, after which the pay as you go data tariff will apply. The prepaid data roaming plans can be purchased and used in the countries listed below:

Purchase of any of the prepaid data plans will be charged from your main account.
Yes you can. However, you can only start using the plans when you arrive in your desired destination and your validity starts counting from the day you purchase the plan.
Yes you can as long as you have enough airtime in your account. Simply input the code for the required plan and you will receive an SMS confirming your purchase. All plans are valid for 30 days from the day of purchase.
All data activities will be charged from the purchased data roaming plan size until it is exhausted. After which data activities will be charged from the main account or MMP account as applicable at the applicable PAYG roaming rates.
No, the data roaming plan offer is available to prepaid subscribers only.
You will receive an SMS notification confirming the success or failure of purchase of the plans.
The data roaming plans are valid for 30 days from the day of purchase and can be used 24 hrs daily.

You will be charged for all data activities including the following:

  • Blackberry messenger: All messenger activities i.e. sending and receiving chats, pictures, files, voice notes.
  • IM: Accessing, sending and receiving chats from any IM account i.e. Google chat, yahoo messenger, MSN messenger
  • Social Media: Face book, twitter, Google+ e.t.c
  • Internet Access:Browsing any site, downloading content from any site, accessing email accounts, sending & receiving mails, accessing any social network site i.e. face book, twitter
  • Content Portal: Accessing and downloading content from Etisalat WAP & Web mobile portal.
  • Streaming: Audio & video streaming
Dial *228# and your data plans balance and expiration date will be displayed on your handset
Once your prepaid roaming data plans expires, you will get an SMS notification. Any further data usage will be deducted from your main account or minimum monthly payment (MMP) account as applicable as long you have sufficient airtime, until another plan is purchased.
Yes you will. An SMS notification will be sent to you 3 days before the validity expiration of your roaming data plans.
Yes you will. An SMS notification will be sent to you on the day your prepaid data roaming data plans is due to expire.
Once your prepaid roaming data plan is exhausted, any further data usage will be deducted from your main account, MMP account or promo account as applicable (as long as you have sufficient airtime) or until you purchase another data roaming plan.
Yes you can as long as you have enough airtime in your account. Simply input the code for the required plans and you will receive an SMS notification, confirming your successful purchase.
Yes you can. The new plan size will be added to the existing one. For example, if you had a plan balance of 10MB and then you bought 50 MB plan your new data roaming plans balance will be 60MB and your new validity will be 30 days from the date of new purchase.
All data activities will be charged at the applicable “pay as you go” rate in the country you are roaming in as follows:
Easy Starter & Easy Cliq: Main Account
Elite world Prepaid & SME: Mminimum monthly payment (MMP) account. Upon exhaustion of airtime in the MMP account charging from the main account would commence.
Yes, all the activities listed above are charged for, irrespective of the options you are using i.e. the pay as you go option or a data plan.
Yes you can. Provided you have sufficient airtime balance and an active daily, weekly or monthly blackberry subscription before travelling or when you arrive in your roaming destination, as this will enable you access the blackberry services in your roaming destination. Note that all usage of blackberry services i.e. bb messenger, sending pictures, voice notes, internet browsing e.g. would be deducted from your prepaid data roaming plans accordingly and at exhaustion of your plan, charging would be at PAYG roaming rates.
Yes you will. Having an active blackberry subscription only enables you free access to blackberry services while in Nigeria. All data usage while roaming via blackberry will be deducted from your roaming data plan or at exhaustion of the plan would be charged at the applicable “pay as you go” data roaming rates whilst roaming
However you can commence your free Blackberry and Internet usage once you return to Nigeria provided your blackberry subscription is still valid.
Most network operators support data via 3G, EDGE or GRPS. If your handset picks up any of these signals and are displayed in capital letters, then you would know that you have access to data.
You will not be able to use data, voice or sms services until you recharge your line.
Yes you can. If you have an etisalat recharge card, simply recharge your line using the appropriate recharge code or receive credit transfers, e-top up, recharge others from anyone in Nigeria, and you can resume data usage while roaming.
Yes this is possible. The person can recharge your line using the recharge others service, transfer credit to your line, or pay for e-top up and your line would be credited instantly.
No, you will not be able to use any free data MB while roaming. All data charges would be deducted from your main account. You can however resume usage of your free data MB when you return to Nigeria, as long as the free MB is still valid.

Yes you can switch off your access to data services before you travel or when you arrive in your destination abroad. Once this is done, you can only make & receive calls, send &receive SMS while roaming.

To switch off data on Blackberry:
  • Click on blackberry symbol
  • Go to manage connections
  • Proceed to Mobile Network Options
  • Under Data Services, switch off data while roaming.
To switch off data on Iphone:
  • Go to Settings
  • Click on General
  • Click on Network
  • Select off under Data Roaming
To switch off data on other devices:
  • Consult your handset manual or call our call center on +2348090000200. Note that calls to the call centre will be charged at the applicable roaming rates.

Yes it is possible. However you will have to stop all automatic login/access to internet activities such as twitter and face book and also stop all emails from being delivered to your device:

Personal Emails - Blackberry:
  • Click on blackberry symbol
  • Go to Setup and click on it
  • Select the required email you want to turn off
  • Select Filters, then select “Do not forward messages to the device”
  • Click on save and perform these steps for other personal email addresses
Official Email- Blackberry:
  • Click on Desktop Icon
  • Go to Options
  • Select Email Filters
  • Uncheck (it should be checked) the box that says “If no filters apply send email to handheld”
  • Uncheck the Boxes for “ To & BCC Default and CC Default
  • Click on save.
No, you will not be able to use your existing Easy Net data plan while roaming. You can however resume usage when you return to Nigeria, as long as the data plan is still valid.
Yes, purchase of Easy Net and/ or Easy Blaze data plans is possible while roaming; however you will not be able to use this until you get to Nigeria, as long as the plan is still valid.
Upon arrival in Nigeria, your data activities will be charged from your blackberry subscription, easy net or easy blaze plan, or free data (MB) as long as they are still valid. Otherwise you will be charged the local pay as you go data rate that is applicable to your package.
